This book is designed as a global appeal for the abolition of the most unreasonable and troublesome rule ever invented in any sport – the offside rule in football. It is not a proposal for further modification of the rule, as has been attempted many times over the past 200 years, but its outright abolition – plus a global apology by all the world’s sporting bodies that have kept it alive.

For the offside ‘’rule’’ should only be seen as an aberration, as nonsense, a concept that normally we should not be wasting our time dealing with. It is a regulation originally invented by semi-intoxicated college kids in England, and has led to the destruction of the game at its most creative and exciting moments. It has, in a teasing manner, been paralleled to the interruption of the climax in love-making!

The reasons for making this effort, as well as the history of this game-spoiling invention, are described in considerable detail within. And in all fairness to those who have supported maintaining offside, there are extensive references and quotes by them so that the reader can make up his / her own mind.

The time has come to throw the offside rule’ into the dustbin of history. For in doing so it will certainly not make goal-scoring ultra-easy (as many have wrongly claimed), but in addition to faster-moving, attacking football will also lead to more spectacular defending and goalkeeping. It will help to elevate the ‘’king of sports’’ overall, to give greater joy and logic to the game and to fans worldwide.

This is an appeal to football officials, players, coaches, fans, legislators and especially the media to embrace the international movement for the Abolition of Offside – or ABOLOFF for short.
